Gerry is a second-generation Sweet Adeline. As a young girl, she accompanied her mother to a chorus rehearsal and was hooked for life! Gerry has directed several choruses at both the regional and international level. As a quartet singer, she holds the record for placing in the top ten at International singing all four parts. She won the International Quartet Championship twice: as the tenor of Panache in 1990 and as the bass of Fanatix in 2002. She earned two silver medals singing lead in the International second place quartet, Chansonniers. She placed in the top ten at International singing baritone in Xtreme (6th) and lead in Sundance (10th). Gerry is also a very talented costume designer, having designed costumes for many award-winning choruses and quartets across the country.
In her home life, Gerry and husband Big Nick have three children, all boys, who have been lovingly known as “barbershop brats”. A high school music teacher, Big Nick is also a music judge in the BHS (Barbershop Harmony Society). He has sung in many quartets and is also an arranger. Son Jesse, their first barbershop kid, proudly served in the United States Air Force. He's married and lives in New Mexico. Second son Sam is active in barbershop and is a presentation judge in the BHS. He and his wife have just made Nick and Gerry proud grandparents for the first time! Youngest son Nick was involved in barbershop for many years. His love of music continued into songwriting, and he currently has his own band.
Gerry was among the first in Sweet Adelines to learn the correct approach to vocal production. She is a much sought-after voice teacher, with a passion for teaching choruses and quartets how to become better singers and performers. Gerry is very happy to be part of what comes next on the journey for the Golden Sands Chorus!
